The director Jan Svěrák made a portrait of his father Zdeněk. In the documentary that so closely joints images and storytelling, where history often transforms into a legend, the insight into both the private and artistic life of Svěrák senior is intercut by shots of his film roles.

The mingling of multiple identities reflects in many variants the story of both men as public icons, it flows gently, and without showing the really intimate things, it moves secretly in a psychoanalytic loop of biography and autobiography, when inside the images the father's narration is connected with the son's view that gives it the final shape.

All is veiled in kindness, and the nostalgia itself, while making clear the importance of memory transformed into family stories, is a precondition of the individual identity and ethics. The Czech small-town society thus got its moral importance.
